A further thought.

If I can’t ask a question, to get more clarity, or to help the person see more from my perspective, I might leave the comment alone.

Asking a question is an open loop, which means the person who commented is going to respond. But in asking, you are not telling.

For example, I asked a pointed question that I knew would put the commentor into a corner. They answered the way I expected, exposed their racism, which consequently ended the conversation.

We are writing to make the world a better place. We are taking the risk of exposing out thoughts and ideas to criticism. The most challenging aspect for me is to “remain calm” when challenged. I don’t like conflict. I know I will need to back off so that I can respond thoughtfully, and with logic, if I’m going to respond at all. I may even reply off medium, to consider my words before I cut, past, and click publish!
