Sam McKenzie Jr. this is excellent writing. The prose is poetic in many places, not just where I’ve highlighted.

If I were your editor, I’d tell you to write more like this, whatever state of mind you were in, the subject matter, the more personal over the research — or take the research as something to hold in the shadow and shine the brightness of who you are through the spaces between the words!
