On my list of things to learn more about is queer theory, which I know would speak more to your comment about equality vs. liberation.
I am of the mind that I want HUMANE rights, for people to live their own lives. We don’t need marriage, as one example, to have equality. Marriage is THE institution of heteronormativity, and I wrote about that here:
Perhaps fighting for marriage equality, or same-sex marriage is “easy”, and easier than fighting for “humane” rights, where equality isn’t the issue, but respect and freedom are.
